Review:
I must
confessed that I had always tried so hard to be a vegetarian,
as I simply love animals and ocean creatures. But I am always
submitted to temptation whenever I walk through our local
hawker centers and fast food restaurants! Could someone tell
these vendors to stop cooking such nice cuisines!
Now
Hollywood, after "Chicken Run" and "Finding
Nemo", had given me another reason why I should not dunk
another piece of meat down my stomach! From
the mastery of the production team that gives you the all-charming,
"Shrek", "Shark Tale" is another sure
winner of the animation junkie's heart! Huge, greenish ugly
ogre aside, this time the production team present to you,
Oscar, a tiny talkative fish with large ambition and a disgusting
job: cleaning the tongue of Whales. Also presenting to the
audience is Lenny, a great white shark with a "dark"
side: he's a vegetarian!
Oscar
looks set to be a nobody until he "single-finnedly"
took on a shark. However, the shark was in fact killed by
an anchor, which coincidentally fell onto its head. Willingly
claiming credits and self-proclaiming himself as "sharkslayer"
a.k.a. protector of the reefs, Oscar gain immediate fame and
fortune! Whenever there's shark swimming close to the reefs,
Oscar would reluctantly patrol the Reef, pretending to be
a courageous shark-hunter when mostly he was hiding rather
than seeking.
Then
along came Lenny, who left home due his "sharknitarian"
nature, which was view as a misfit to his shark family. Lenny
became the unlikely ally of Oscar's scheme, making his lie
more concrete by publicly "sparring" with him and
the result would always be the shark-killer as the winner!
In return, Oscar offers Lenny a shelter in a secretive hideout
within the reef. When
everything seem too good to be true for Oscar, Lenny's dad,
Don Lino, the powerful great white shark cum the "Godfather"
of the reef, came seeking revenge for his late son - the first
shark that Oscar claimed to have been slaughtered.
Telling
the morale of valuing your own identity and to be brave of
who you are, even though you may be a "misfit" (as
in the case of Lenny) or being view as a "low-life"
(in the case of Oscar), this movie is a recommended weekend
retreat for the whole family. In case you are still not convince,
check out the list of dream casts, who were the voices of
the movie's loveable characters: the voices of Academy Award®
nominee Will Smith ("Ali") as Oscar; two-time Academy
Award® winner Robert De Niro ("Raging Bull,"
"The Godfather, Part II") as Don Lino; Academy Award®
winner Renée Zellweger ("Cold Mountain")
as Angie, the Angle fish; Academy Award® winner Angelina
Jolie ("Girl, Interrupted") as Lola, a cross between
a lion fish and a dragonfish; Jack Black ("School of
Rock") as Lenny; and multiple Oscar®-nominated director
Martin Scorsese ("Gangs of New York," "Goodfellas")
as Sykes, the puffer fish.
This
is definitely another gem to the CGI movie list. Catch it
if you could only afford one movie this week! But be punctual
for the show as I am sure you would not want to miss the hilarious
opening scene, bringing you for an orientation ride through
the great reefs, which looks so much
like the streets of Tokyo!
